Nick Gray and Warwick Doolan shared top honours for the local competition at the fourth annual Finley Sheep Dog Trials over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

Nick’s dog ‘Lara’ and Warwick’s dog ‘Diesal’ both finished on 40 points to finish equal first in the competition.
Hugh Burton and his dog ‘Jet’ were second on 28.
Twenty-four competitors with 133 dogs descended on the town for the trials, which included a Novice, Improver and Open competitions.
Mick Hudson claimed the top title, winning the open competition with his dog ‘Ritchies Finn’.
Novice judge was Jon Contrall from Dubbo, improver and open judge was Norm Severs from Johnsonville, while Josh Marshall from Yass judged the local section.
Finley Show president Matt Mueller said there were positive comments all round from the event, adding that everyone was happy with the ground, course and facilities.
‘‘They also felt very welcomed by the community and the hospitality of the town,’’ he said.

Novice section: Russell Percival with ‘Tarcoola Lady’, 147 points, 1; Laurie Slater with ‘Me Mate Jill’, 142 points, 2; Laurie Slater with ‘Annaway Digger’, 136 points, 3.
Improver section: John Perry with ‘Zoz Nell’, 171 points, 1; Russell Percival with ‘Tarcoola Wally’, 167 points, 2; Laurie Slater with ‘Annaway Digger’, 163 points, 3.
Open section: Mick Hudson with ‘Ritchies Finn’, 194 points, 1; Paul Darmody with ‘Annaway Dotti’, 190 points, 2; Laurie Slater with ‘Zeefree Marlon’ and Paul O’Kane with ‘O’Kanes Charles Dickens’, 186 points, equal 3.
