The investment would be spent improving the school’s ag plot, and further raise the bar for learning in the agricultural space.
The school and its P&C are raising funds for the project themselves, which includes applying for grants.
The school’s ag program has been growing for a number of years, with its show teams having great success at rural and metropolitan shows and competitions.
The experience is a positive one for the students, which also sets them up for future careers in the Finley district, known for its agriculture.
Agriculture teacher Robyn O’Leary said with the support of the P&C, the school is applying for all appropriate grants.
“The P&C has already secured a grant from Murray Irrigation for $5,000, which is a great start,” Mrs O’Leary said.
“The P&C group has also applied for many others, and there’s also an ongoing building fund that could be drawn upon.”
Mrs O’Leary said the planned upgrades are about having the right space and being able to operate machinery and equipment safely.
Improvements will include the erection of a shed, which would require concrete, plumbing, insulation and electricity.
The shed space would be used similarly to any classroom, and will afford students doing theory to be able to do so in a comfortable space.
Mrs O’Leary pointed out that the space would also be fitted with a smart board for learning purposes.
Plans for the upgrades are expected to be finalised soon, which would kick start a consultation phase for the school.
