To express gratitude for the positive response to the three bin system, ERC residents can access high-quality compost directly from Biomix, the facility that processes our green bin waste.
It gives the community the opportunity to benefit from their own efforts by enriching their gardens and landscapes.
The compost can be collected from the Deniliquin Saleyards between 8am and 2pm tomorrow.
Residents are encouraged to bring their own containers or trailers to collect the compost, and trailer covers.
Council staff will be on-site to manage traffic, assist residents with a small earthmover and to provide information on the benefits and uses of compost in home gardening.
For more information about the event or waste sorting practices, please contact Anna Kelly on 03 5898 3000.
And coming up soon is a free waste disposal days at the Deniliquin landfill.
They will be held September 14 and 15, and available to all Edward River Council residents.
This is for residential properties only and does not extend to tyres, commercial waste, construction and demolition waste.
Men’s Shed battery drive
The Moulamein Men’s Shed is doing its yearly round up of old batteries to convert funds into fish fingerlings for our rivers.
Moulamein Matters author Ian ‘China’ Gibson said it’s one of the many things the group – known for its “unreal red gum picnic tables and very good quality red gum benches and bars” - do in their spare time.
“Check your shed, check your tip, and even check your battery in your car - if it has reached the end of its life, our Moulamein Men’s Shed would love it,” China said.
“You can just drop them off in front of our Men’s Shed in town or give Noel a ring on 0447 541 200 for them to be picked up.
“Our Men’s Shed crew are getting on a bit, so if you have a big load, putting them on a pallet would be much appreciated.
“Jesus fed the hordes with bread and fish. Our Moulamein Men’s Shed hope to supply the fish. The good Lord will have to supply the bread.”

Video emergency police calls now possible
NSW Police has officially launched a new platform which will link police and the community, enabling members of the public to interact directly with police dispatchers and police responding to emergencies.
‘BluLink’ allows the public to provide police with GPS coordinates, live video streaming, digital media uploads, and text messages via a link sent to them from Triple Zero (000) dispatchers.
The platform can be used to help police confirm the exact location of an emergency, and for the public to send live vision to police of incidents as they unfold.
The information will assist in the dispatch of appropriate resources by allowing police to better triage incidents, and potentially support subsequent investigations.
$130,000 Echuca Tobacco Bust
More than $130,000 worth of illicit tobacco has been seized by police in Echuca.
About 100,000 sticks of tobacco, more than 660 vapes and about 8kg of loose tobacco were seized as part of the investigation.
Campaspe Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested two men - a 25 year-old Tarneit man and a 50 year-old Pakenham man.
Police allege the pair were sitting in a vehicle outside a tobacconist at 240 Pakenham St, Echuca about 4.30am on August 22.
Officers searched the vehicle and allegedly located a large amount of illicit tobacco and more than $20,000 in cash.
A warrant was then executed on a Pakenham St store and a Hare St store.
The pair were subsequently charged with tobacco related offences under the Customs Act 1901 (Commonwealth) and bailed to appear at Echuca Magistrates’ Court on December 10.
