BayWa r.e Projects Australia has announced 13 successful applicants in the first round.
Coleambally Central School’s P&C Association has received $4000 to host a careers day in mid-2024.
Coleambally Rescue will also be supported under the program, receiving $2500 to purchase medical equipment to be used in the protection of the district community.
The third recipient is the Coleambally Football Netball Club, which will use the funding to replace the goal post pads. It has been awarded just over $4300.
Other grants have gone to group in Griffith, Hay and Deniliquin, so support sporting organisations and community and cultural events.
“We were really pleased with the high volume of very worthy applications we received,” BayWa community engagement manager Marteen McKenzie said.
“There is such exciting community work being carried out in the region.”
Full details of all successful projects can be found on the Bullawah Windfarm website at bullawah-windfarm.com.
Two additional rounds of the small grant will be announced in 2024.
The proposed Bullawah wind farm is still in the development stage, and is expected to be built near Hay.
The proponents are working with residents of Hay, Deniliquin, Coleambally, Darlington Point and surrounds throughout the development stage.
The scoping report is complete and the environmental impact statement will be submitted in 2024.
The wind farm will have have an installed capacity of up to 1000MW that will generate clean green renewable energy to power 500,000 homes.
A battery facility on site will allow for the capture and storage of dispatchable energy.
The power generated either direct from the turbines or released from battery storage will feed into the electricity grid via the proposed Project EnergyConnect transmission line.
The project includes 170 wind turbines, with a maximum blade-tip height of 300m above the ground.
During the scoping report and environmental impact statement preparation phase, technical studies will be undertaken and their outcomes as well as community input will inform the wind farm design.
