“Faith is like a fire blanket. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.” (Isaiah 43:2 NIV).

Since the beginning of this new year, the world’s eyes and ears have been fixed on the devastating fires that have swept through California.

The loss of life, homes, businesses and schools has been unprecedented.

The people have been dealt a huge blow and many are struggling to come to terms with the overwhelming loss.

Our scripture today reminds us that for those who are firmly anchored in God, there is no trial we can face that is bigger than God.

The God who created the heavens and the Earth can deliver His people from both floods and fires. There are many testimonies of homes being saved by people who stayed and protected their own properties, many trusting in God and being prepared.

The leaders of California certainly let the people down with their lack of preparation, overgrown dry forests and inexcusable lack of water supply.

God will make a way for people to get through the days ahead when they cry out to Him.

Nothing in this world can destroy us when we are wrapped up in our faith in God.

Faith is like a fire blanket that extinguishes the flames. Faith gets us through everything that life throws at us.

Every time we get knocked down in life, we can trust that God will help us get back up on our feet.

Let’s all pray for the people of California to rebuild their lives on a firm foundation of Jesus Christ.

Let’s also pray for a turning back to God and for revival to sweep across our world.
