With the number of people needing the service growing, and a shortage of food donations from Victoria food banks which are closed, local coordinator Davina Vidler said more is needed.
Mrs Vidler said Finley Food Bank has already gratefully received donations from Moira Shire, K & A Foods, Finley Bakery & Patisserie and Tuppal Dairy.
She is now calling on other local businesses and those with home grown produce to do what they can.
She said the only item the food bank cannot accept from backyard producers is eggs.
Cash donations are also welcome, with tins at various local businesses.
And of course Mrs Vidler and the rest of the group would welcome any ongoing sponsorships.
The community appeal has been prompted by the community demand for the Finley Food Bank services in recent weeks.
“The first week of the Finley doors opening saw five families needing assistance, and over the last three weeks that need has grown to between 35 and 46 families a week, and more than 120 people needing help,” Mrs Vidler said.
Given the number of families who now require the food bank services, volunteers ask those utilising the service to be mindful that all donations need to go further than they once did.
It is located at the Finley Showgrounds, in the building near the soccer field.
They are open Thursdays from noon until 1pm.
