Finley High School celebrates teachers and staff

Education Week passed by almost unceremoniously this year because of COVID-19 restrictions, but Finley High School made the most of it.

Just before the state and school was sent in to a formal lockdown, teachers and students marked the week and achievements within the school.

‘‘An education provides you with the tools to improve your quality of life,’’ said Finley High School principal Jeff Ward.

‘‘An education enables us to make the right choices in life.’’

He told students: ‘‘Whilst the building blocks for success are laid down by your teachers, it’s now up to you to add to these.’’

The celebrations included the presentation of Education Week awards, with this year’s recipients exemplifying the theme ‘quiet achievers and those who give it their all’.

Three teachers and three students were nominated for the awards by their peers.

Teacher recipients were:

Jacqui O’Bryan – The school’s English teacher, who ‘‘implements outstanding classroom practices and routines and has been a very supportive colleague across a number of faculties for many years’’.
Gary Webb – An agricultural teacher who ‘‘is an outstanding educator who gives much of his time to support students especially in agriculture’’.
Deb White – A careers counsellor who always ‘‘goes above and beyond to make sure every student is valued’’.

Student recipients were:

Shelby Hislop – Who ‘‘tries her best in all aspects of education’’, and whose resilience and dedication to learning is second to none.
Larshya Sutharsamohan – Honoured for her outstanding performance in HSC subjects, especially maths, and who is an ‘‘exemplary role model for the whole student community’’.
Jade Selwood – Who ‘‘always completes every task to the best of her ability’’, and goes above and beyond to complete those tasks.
