Over the long weekend a group of 80+ ex-students and teachers gathered to celebrate our 50 year high school reunion.
It was a spectacular weekend. Friendships were rekindled, memories dragged up from the deep and belly laughs resounded through the town.
This very successful event was a tribute to the Finley community.
The support the organizers received was amazing. It is a true reflection of the generosity of the Finley and district community.
Thanks go to the Finley Golf Club and its small army of volunteers, who manned the bar and fed us.
The Finley Bowling Club and its volunteers, who hosted us for barefoot bowls and recovery brunch on Sunday morning.
The Country Club Hotel where we gathered to begin our celebrations.
And 99 Stitches in Berrigan, who subsidised the very popular and much sought after school pens handed out at the dinner.
And finally, the magnificent Finley High School itself.
Jeff Ward (principal) kindly interrupted his holiday to lead a tour of more than 40 students and staff through the grounds. It was fabulous.
Finley and district should be very proud of this wonderful asset. And congratulations to the current agriculture team, who Jeff spoke so proudly about.
This school has nurtured and mentored the development of hundreds of students, many of whom have gone on to achieve incredible careers as barristers, doctors, artists, engineers, teachers and farmers - to name but a few.
But mostly the school has developed happy, well-adjusted members of society.
I believe the values of the high school, its feeder primary schools and the wider community were all on display over the weekend.
I am proud to call myself a Finley High graduate.
Thanks for having us back.
Yours etc.
