Finley High School principal Jeff Ward and captains Roree Wallis and Sarah Bauer were delighted to recently receive a generous donation of $2000 from the Finley Community Second Hand Shop.

“This money will go a long way to support the learning and wellbeing needs of our students,” Mr Ward said.
“Each year the Second Hand Shop donates to the school, and this would not be possible without the community’s support.”
The Finley Community Second Hand Shop in Endeavour St is run by volunteers, as are many other local organisations, and new members to the group are always welcome.

The field is looking good for the annual Pink Day at Finley Golf Club which is coming up on Wednesday, August 14.
However, club captain Mary Polkinghorne is still taking entries by email to maryapolk@gmail.com or phone 0428 104 284 providing player names, Golflink numbers and if using/sharing a cart.
This day came about 19 years ago and is organised by Joanne Dean following the death of her mother to breast cancer.
Joanne has continued to raise funds to assist others going through the same journey.
As usual, the day is concentrated on having fun, playing golf, raffles, enjoying a barbecue lunch provided by Finley Lions Club members and much more.
Proceeds from the day are donated to breast cancer research, so let’s work together to make a difference.

Just a reminder that next Thursday, August 8, Murrumbidgee Local Health District specialist palliative care team, together with the support of the Local Health Advisory Committee, will be holding an information session for adults at all stages of life to have conversations and improve knowledge around choices for their end-of-life.
Information on advance care planning, funeral arrangements and end of life legalities will be given.
The session will take place between 10.30am and 12.30pm at the Finley RS Club.

Val Royal works on one of her quilts for the Finley Regional Care Artisan and Creative Expo.
Val Royal has been working hard making some beautiful patchwork items to be sold at the Finley Regional Care Artisan and Creative Expo to be held at the Finley Memorial and School of Arts Hall on Sunday, August 25.
This is all part of the 120 year celebration of the Finley School of Arts Hall which will take place over that weekend.
On Friday, August 23, the Finley Dance Group will host a Masquerade Ball from 7.30pm to 11.30pm in the School of Arts Hall.
Then on Saturday, August 24, there will be an Open Day in the hall between 10am and 4pm with a display of memorabilia.
Free morning and afternoon tea will be available.
To conclude the events on Sunday, August 25, Finley Regional Care Auxiliary will be conducting an Artisan and Creativity Expo in the War Memorial Hall with morning and afternoon tea available in the hall between 10am and 3pm.
Arrangements for the Finley Museum, the Finley Railway Museum and Close’s Foundry Museum have been made to be open on Saturday, August 24.
So be sure to keep this weekend in mind, to find out some of the history of Finley and the opportunity to enjoy some great entertainment.

Proud parents, Jan and Bill Braybon, are particularly keen to watch the 2024 Olympic Games taking place in Paris.
Their son, Kevin ‘Woopie’ Braybon, is in Paris in his capacity as manager of the Australian BMX Olympic team.
It is understood that Kevin will also be involved in some judging.

Winner of the Finley Lions Club wood raffle last Saturday was Colleen Newman.
The members, who give so freely of their time selling the tickets, are a very interesting group to stop and have a chat to.
