Combined Finley Probus Club publicity officer Myra Cowell has provided the following report of the group’s November 24 mystery trip, attended by 31 members.
Leaving Finley at 9.30am we travelled across to Berrigan and after a tour around some of the streets we stopped at Carter & Co for morning tea.
After morning tea, we ventured into the Berrigan Historical Museum where we could browse the interesting items there.
These are housed in a beautiful brick building which was a former residence and bank.
Items ranged from historical with lots of photos of early settlers, war memorabilia which included information regarding these, old office and household items from an era gone by.
Following lunch we returned to Finley and stopped off at the Finley Railway Museum.
Here we were given a talk by two members of the Railway Committee, shown a video and were able to browse the displays.
From there we went around to the Museum at Mary Lawson Park, and once again found a great display of items to browse.
Of particular interest to all was the wonderful mural of the main street of Finley, as it was years ago.
After listening to some of the comments from the tour participants, it is amazing how many people had not visited these great places of interest in our towns.
They are all maintained and researched by dedicated volunteers in our communities. Hats off to those who do a sterling job to record and look after our history.
The next meeting of the Finley Combined Probus Club is Tuesday from 10am at the Finley Uniting Church Hall.
This meeting will be in the theme of a Christmas Party, so come along decorated with tinsel and bells. Lunch will follow in the hall, at a cost of $20.
For catering purposes, it is essential you book. Call Myra on 0428 826 338 by tomorrow.
