The awarding of the grants was noted at the April council meeting.
The Shepparton Triathlon Club received $2500 to help host an aquathlon event and add a cycle component to provide a sprint triathlon option to competitors.
Shepparton Cycling Club will put a $2000 grant towards the Fruits of the Valley Cyclo-Cross 2022.
The two-day state-level event is a mix of a road riding and cross-country mountain biking generally held over the autumn and winter period, which makes for some muddy, but fun, racing.
Field and Game Shepparton was granted $1940 for the Oceania Sporting Clays championship, which will run for four days with competitors from Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
The Goulburn Valley Orchid Club received $1500 for its Spring Show and GV Gamers $1000 for ShepparCon 2022.
The GV Hockey League, which will host Hockey Victoria Premier League matches between Essendon and Camberwell on July 23, received $1000.
City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Kim O’Keeffe thanked each of the groups that applied.
“There are so many fantastic events happening in our region and council is very supportive of providing grant opportunities to event facilitators to help grow and diversify our region’s major events calendar,” she said.
“Having more major events in our region will lead to increased visitation, length of stay and economic yield, making our region a more attractive place to live, work and invest.’’
Each application was assessed against criteria including economic impact, capacity to attract visitation, social benefit, environmental impact and the event budget.
