Eleven year-old Levi Jakeman, together with his parents Ashley and Randall, called in to the Finley MenShed on Friday morning to receive a very generous donation presented by Bill Rowlands to assist with his athletics program.

Levi has recently returned from a very successful trip to Sydney for the PSSA School Athletics Championships where he took out the gold medal for the high jumps.
Levi and his parents were most appreciative of the donation, as the costs involved in travelling for coaching and participation in events is quite considerable.
“If any other organisations in Finley could see their way clear to assist financially, it would be very helpful and much appreciated” Ashley said.

The family is particularly excited to have been approached by well-known coach Paul Cleary from Ballarat who has offered his expertise to assist Levi.
A former Olympian, Cleary has expressed his desire to give the same opportunity to athletes from rural areas as those in metropolitan locations.
Levi is now training for, and excited about representing NSW and his local community, when he competes at the PSSA Athletics National Championships at Sydney Olympic Park at the end of November.

The hard-working members of Finley Regional Care Auxiliary are preparing for their street stall to be held this Friday, between 8.30am and 1pm.
The usual cakes, slices, produce and plants will be for sale and these ladies are well known for their wonderful cooking so make sure you don’t miss out.
Tickets will also be on sale for the usual Monster Christmas raffle, and are $2 each.
This will be drawn at Finley Regional Care on Wednesday, December 18.
Funds raised by the FRC Auxiliary are used to provide extra facilities and equipment for the residents of the facility.

An enthusiastic group gathered for ‘Unlocking Hope – No. 12’ at Finley Returned Soldiers Club last Thursday.
They heard from Julie Mecham, who provided an enjoyable and stimulating talk for the Berrigan Shire Dementia Alliance.
Julie is the palliative care project officer with the Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network.
She provided an in-depth view of the difficulties of caring for loved ones with memory loss and dementia, and had many excellent suggestions for self-care strategies to help with the process.
She cleverly used examples of how activities that appeal to our various senses can have a great benefit.
This was the last ‘Unlocking Hope’ presentation for 2024.
The next in the series will occur in February 2025, when it is likely that the presentations will take place on a Tuesday.

The last movie morning for the year at the Finley Uniting Church, in Coree St, will take place tomorrow from 10am.
An invitation is extended to everyone to go along and enjoy each other’s company.
This is a great way to get together with friends and make new ones.
The movies will recommence in February 2025.

CanAssist Finley branch will be conducting a street stall on Friday, December 6 and would welcome donations of saleable goods.
The members would like to express their appreciation of the continuing support given by the community.
All funds raised locally, stay local to help all those doing the journey with cancer and their families.

The message has gone out to all men in the area to put down their razor for a good cause.
“It’s time to Grow a Mo and Save a Bro” according to the organizers of the event to be held at the Finley RS Club on Saturday, November 30.
Tickets are $55 per person, which includes a welcome drink, two-course meal, Mo bag and entry into the lucky door prize.

Special guest speaker will be AFL Legend Doug Hawkins.
