Rushworth has the largest percentage of tree canopy coverage in Campaspe Shire, which is why it comes as no surprise to anyone that the town’s Christmas traditions are also very green.

The Christmas decoration committee members were out in full force on Saturday, November 30, and didn’t let the day’s torrential downpour keep them from setting the town up for another festive season.

Heather Wellington and Lyn Rumble were just two of seven members who braved the weather to set up Santa and his reindeer, the Santa Kissing Booth, the many ornaments hanging from various structures and the special Christmas tree display.
Back for the fifth year in a row, the tree display brings over 50 trees to adorn the High St nature strip, individually decorated by Rushworth community groups, organisations and individuals.
Getting in on the fun this year and creatively decorating metal frames included the Rushworth Red Hatters, Rushworth SES, the P-12 College, the playgroup, the gardening club and many more.

Committee member Mrs Wellington said the event had only grown since the first edition in 2019.
She said they commissioned the local Men’s Shed to make the frames; community groups then registered their interest in decorating a tree in their own way.
“The decorations just make the town come alive,” she said.
It wasn’t just organisations that got in on the fun, individuals and families also had a crack at decorating a tree for display.

As the year draws to a close, the Christmas tree display is just one of many decorations transforming Campaspe Shire towns into scenes reminiscent of Dr Seuss’ Whoville.
In Kyabram, the yarn bombers have once again taken over Allan St, decorating light posts and buildings with various knitted decorations.
The Illumination Station in the Memorial Gardens also lights up the night for passers-by and Santa’s Cave is beginning to take shape at Kyabram Town Hall ahead of his arrival on December 14.
