Delivered to the school on Monday, it will contribute toward the development of a new playground at the proposed facility which is estimated at $200,000.
It comes as the Jerilderie Preschool moves ever closer to going out to tender for construction of the new building.
The $1.2 million required for the build has been previously allocated through other grants, and preschool director Rebekah Salter said the last step before going to tender is land approval.
Ms Salter said the latest grant came about when providing an update on the project to Member for Albury Justin Clancy.
‘‘It wasn’t something we applied for,’’ she said.
‘‘We had a meeting with Justin a few weeks ago to explain the project, and he sought the funding for us.
‘‘The additional money will be used for an outdoor playground. Once the whole facility is finished it will allow us to cater for more places in our care.
‘‘We are currently only licensed for 20 places and with the new facility we will have more rooms and up to date facilities, which will allow us to offer a total of 38 places.
‘‘We will also be able to employ more staff.
‘‘We are hoping to get some good news in the next few weeks so we can move to the tender stage.’’
The new facility will accommodate both a preschool program and long day care service, and will be built on the corner of Kennedy and Mahonga Sts in Jerilderie.
Footpath access will be created leading to the building on Mahonga St, with on-site staff parking located next to the entrance.
Ms Salter said more than two years of planning has already gone in to the project.
She said the community would be invited to help name the new facility.
‘‘It’s important that everyone recognises the project as one that will help the community, so we feel they should be involved in the naming process,’’ she said.
‘‘In the coming weeks we will put out a poll with some names that we’ve come up with.
‘‘Whichever is the most popular will become the new name.
‘‘But if anyone has other ideas for a name, we’d love to hear it. You can either contact us or Murrumbidgee Council.’’
