The tour brought them to Finley Public School last week, after years of virtual learning through the COVID years.
Students enjoyed the highly engaging sessions, with hands on interaction, working with real lifesavers and the equipment they use.
Beach to Bush is Surf Life Saving NSW’s flagship educational program.
Since 1994 it has been exposing primary school-aged students to important beach and ocean safety messaging.
It not only covers safety on inland waterways and pools, but makes sure country kids are prepared when they visit coastal beaches too.
The program is based on data which suggests children from regional and rural parts of NSW are often at higher risk than those from coastal locations because they are less familiar with the beach and unaware of potential surf dangers.
Surf Life Saving NSW currently delivers the program free of charge, supported by the NSW Government and ClubsNSW, with Ingenia Holiday Parks the naming rights partner.
Finley Public School students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participated in 45-minute sessions that focused on beach and inland water safety, with the key messages able to be applied to rivers, dams, pools and other inland waterways.
Some of the students were lucky enough to get dressed in the uniform and role-play the actions lifeguards use in day-to-day situations.
