Many Mobs Indigenous Corporation, which has bases in Jerilderie and Yarrawonga-Mulwala, received $40,000 from the NSW Government’s 2024 Youth Opportunities program.
Specific details about the Many Mobs Youth Engagement Cultural Camp, including a date and location, are yet to be released.
Many Mobs is a First Nations community focused, not for profit organisation which facilitates community-driven projects that enhance the lives of all Indigenous peoples.
Operating on both sides of the Murray River, it hosts regular Yarn Ups to bring communities together and supports the community through advocating the teaching and protection of culture by uniting its people to maintain connection to the land and spirituality.
It can provide maps and tours to spiritual places on country, with Elders assisting people to reconnect with their ancestral spirits and connect people to cultural activities such as making of boomerangs and spears, and teaching the traditional ways of fishing, hunting and bush tucker.
Distributing $1.5 million across 36 groups, the 2024 Youth Opportunities program supports youth-led projects that aim to address the needs of marginalised young people in their communities.
Each project will involve young people at every stage – from identifying local needs and developing a project proposal through to its design, delivery and final review.
The innovative projects will increase young people’s connection to their communities and give them the chance to develop essential leadership, communication and management skills – helping them to achieve their full potential.
Marginalised youth can include people aged between 12 and 24 who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness, are from lower socio-economic backgrounds, are transitioning from out-of-home care, live with a disability, are young carers or have contact with the justice system.
