Councillors who were automatically appointed to council in the local government elections met for the first time last week to appoint the leadership team.
Elected to the role of Deputy Mayor was fellow returning councillor Renee Paine.
Both positions were uncontested, with the newly elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor set to hold their positions for a two-year term, until September 2026.
“Thank you to my fellow councillors for their continued support,” Cr Cornwell McKean said.
“I look forward to continuing to serve Berrigan Shire as Mayor.”
This marks an exciting period for the Berrigan Shire Council as they work collaboratively to address community needs and further progress local initiatives.
Joining Crs Cornwell McKean and Paine on the council are fellow returning councillor Matthew Hannan, and new councillors John Stringer, Katie Ngatokoa, Renee Brooker and Catherine Healy.
Berrigan Shire Council only received seven nominations to fill the eight seats on council ahead of the September 14 election.
All were automatically elected, and council will operate with a council of seven until a by-election to elect an eighth is held.
It will be held by the NSW Electoral Commission on Saturday, November 23.
Nominations for by-election candidates will open on October 14, and will close on October 23.
It will be compulsory for Berrigan Shire residents to vote in the by-election.
Berrigan Shire is one of 14 councils across NSW who did not meet the requirements to proceed to the scheduled election.
