Matt Collins will be leading the school into 2023 after 16 years working in the education system.
Prior to his arrival at Barooga Public School Mr Collins worked at Corowa Public School.
He brings to Barooga not only a keen understanding of what it takes to lead a school but also the challenges of running a classroom.
“Most of my career has been in leadership, but still very much grounded in the classroom,” Mr Collins said.
Asked why he wanted to come to Barooga, Mr Collins said he saw the opportunity to grow as an educator in a community-minded environment.
“I saw it as a great opportunity to continue to develop as a leader,” he said.
Mr Collins said that despite having only taken up the post recently, he was getting a strong sense of Barooga Public School’s community involvement.
“I love that sense of community,” he said.
“I have already been really welcomed by the staff, and parents have had some really nice chats and whatnot.”
It is an exciting time for NSW education, with departmental reforms to the curriculum well under way.
For Mr Collins, this change is an opportunity to make the school a better place and ensure students are ready for the world of tomorrow, especially when it comes to technology.
“There are some really good, exciting opportunities for more technology integration in the school,” he said.
As for his end goal as the new principal, Mr Collins had one simple answer.
“Improving teaching and learning at our school, because that's what we're here for,” he said.
