Nola Pinnuck stepped down as president after an impressive eight years of dedicated service, at the recent Murray Hut Country Women’s Association annual general meeting.

While Nola has passed the leadership baton, she will continue to play a vital role within the organisation, accepting the position of vice-president.
Stepping into the role of president is Sue Escott/Braybon. Penny Sloane continues in her role as branch secretary/treasurer.
In her final report as president, Nola reflected on the past year’s achievements. A significant highlight was the reintroduction of the Melbourne Cup Luncheon in November 2023, held at the Finley Golf Club. The event was a resounding success, with around 80 patrons attending and it becoming the branch’s major fundraiser of the year.
November 2023 was an eventful month for Murray Hut CWA, with the Melbourne Cup Luncheon followed by two highly anticipated events. The branch hosted a welcome gathering for NSW Governor Margaret Beazley on November 23 and, later that month, welcomed author Liz Harfull, who discussed her book ‘A Farming Life’ at the Finley Library. Both events were well-supported by the local community.
Additionally, Murray Hut CWA awarded its STEM Scholarship to a Tocumwal Finley High School student who is now pursuing nursing at Charles Sturt University. Once again, the scholarship attracted high-calibre applicants, and CWA is thankful of those members managing the selection process.
Murray Hut CWA membership remains strong, with an average of 15 attendees at each meeting and a total membership of 24. The group also welcomed new members this year.
Throughout the year, the branch’s fundraising efforts continued, including a successful Mother’s Day Raffle and catering services at the Finley Show, which provided vital financial support for the group’s activities.
In addition, Murray Hut CWA made important contributions to the community, including donating Trauma Teddies to the local ambulance service, creating toiletry kits for the local hospital, and participating in the Anzac Day service in Finley.
Looking ahead, Murray Hut CWA is already preparing for its 2024 Melbourne Cup Day event and remains committed to supporting the local community through meaningful initiatives.
In closing her report, Nola expressed her gratitude to the dedicated members of Murray Hut CWA, thanking them for their ongoing commitment to making a difference in the community.

She is project officer palliative care for the Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network.

Jimmy Price was keen to get more bread from Mum Elyse to feed to the goslings at the Finley Lake.
There was plenty of activity at the Finley Lake on Sunday, which was a beautiful spring day.
There were many people of all ages with a fishing line, kayaking on the water and others just enjoying the wildlife, including Elyse and little Jimmy Price.
Residents nearby the lake have been keeping a protective watch on a family of geese and goslings over the past week and Elyse and Jimmy were there to share some bread.
The lake is a wonderful facility for the Finley community; with the necessary conveniences, it is a great place to visit, relax and even take a walk on the track around the lake.
