Peter began making this generous donation approximately 25 years ago with the Australian Red Cross in Cobram.
At that time, there were several other members of the Finley community making the trip to contribute every three months.
Following the closure of the facility in Cobram, Peter began travelling to Shepparton to continue donating.
He is extremely proud of the fact that he has been able to influence his grandson, 22 year-old Blayre, to also take on this much needed action.
Blayre, who resides in Melbourne, has just completed his training to become an enrolled nurse and is planning on continuing studies to become a registered nurse.
Peter intends to continue this wonderful service and would like to encourage others to consider donating.
Giving blood is one of the most generous things you can do.
As long as you are over 18 years of age, feel well and weigh more than 50kg you should be able to give!
Did you know:
• You can donate blood once every 12 weeks, or plasma every two weeks;
• It only takes about one hour to give blood, which could help save up to three people’s lives.
• There’s a common misconception that most blood is used in trauma and emergency situations, but in fact a third of blood and blood products are used by cancer patients.
• 34 per cent of all donated blood collected in Australia is used to treat cancer and blood diseases.
• Cancer patients often need many transfusions of blood, plasma, or plasma medicines during their treatment.
To book to make a donation, call 13 14 95 or book online at lifeblood.com.au or on the Donate Blood app.

Finley Public School is going green. Well, for one day anyway.
The school fete will take place on St Patrick’s Day, Friday, March 17 between 4pm and 7pm.
There will be the usual entertainment and stalls, however this year community stalls are also being introduced.
An invitation is extended to other groups and organisations to take part by booking a market stall.
This can be done by contacting Bec on 0438 834 010.
A barbecue will also be available, so dress up in all things green and go along for an evening of fun and community spirit.
The students have been working hard to provide extra entertainment for the younger members attending.
KTM will have mystery jars; 1/2G lolly bags; 2/3P cup cake decorating; 3/4M bean bag throwing; 4/5H a balloon pop; 5/6A coin drop and 5/6O Chocolate Wheel.
Who knows! There may even be an Irish jig or two.

A social meeting was held at the Finley Recreation Reserve for members of the Finley Passionate Community Participants to receive an update on the group and the Finley Community Farm.
Delicious finger food was supplied by members of the Murray Hut CWA Branch throughout the evening.
Members of the Finley Football Club originally share farmed north of Finley to support the club.
In 2010 the focus on raising funds turned to assisting in the building of the Apex Sports Centre.
Members of the farming group who have contributed in time, expertise, use of equipment, seed, fuel, chemicals and fertilizer over many years continued after completion of the Recreation Reserve building to the point where the group saw potential to benefit the broader community.
The result was the purchase of the Finley Community Farm, ‘Mandalay’ in 2021, just 5km east on the Riverina Highway, while share farming will continue on ‘Kelvinside’ to enable outright ownership of the property all of the community will have a stake in.
A number of clubs and organisations, several businesses and individuals have contributed significantly.
Ongoing contributions from the community in the donation of monetary sums, providing labour, time, use of machinery and donations of inputs such as water, seed and fertilizer will see the group in a position to support the community in good time.
A wonderful endorsement of the project is an indication from some community members of the intention to bequest funds to assist.
With good seasons the group hopefully will be in a position in the next three to five years to release funding into the community for projects which may include health or education.
An independent committee will be responsible for assessing the applications and deciding the provision of funding.
