Plants to complete bridge project

The final piece of the Echuca-Moama Bridge Project is coming together, with landscaping works along the Murray Valley Hwy and Warren St, Echuca.

A range of native species will make their home near the new bridge, with eucalypts such as river red gum, black box and white box to be planted, as well as native grasses, shrubs and ground covers.

The plants have been chosen for their resilience and low maintenance, with little water usage and high-growth performance.

The majority of the planting will be completed by late December, with crews working Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm.

Major Road Projects Victoria program director Damien Afxentis said he was happy to see the planting on track.

“We’re making good progress on the final landscaping for the Echuca-Moama Bridge Project,” he said.

“Most of the planting will be finished by the end of the year, with some additional planting to take place in autumn.

“This work is part of our commitment to delivering a resilient and sustainable landscape of drought-tolerant native plants along the Murray Valley Hwy and Warren St.”

The Echuca-Moama Bridge Project was jointly funded by the federal, Victorian and NSW governments.

Some traffic changes, including short-term lane closures and speed restrictions on the Murray Valley Hwy and Warren St from Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 3.30pm, can be expected.
