Captain Ian Desailly from Tocumwal Fire and Rescue would like to thank those who visited the station for their Open Day on Saturday, May 25.

The station opened its doors from 10am to 2pm where community members were welcomed to chat to the local firefighters, look at the equipment used on the fire truck and learn about fire safety.
There were demonstrations where the children even got to race mini fire trucks with one of the firefighting hoses and sit in the fire trucks. It was a great opportunity for the children to see the station and fire truck up close and leave with some goodies to remember the day.
Captain Desailly also said the brigade is eager to recruit more on-call firefighters and need the help of our community.
There are several firefighter positions to fill within the team of community-minded men and women.
Due to the short staffed crews in our area, Tocumwal is having to send firefighters away to support these stations.
Tocumwal has had a couple of new faces around last week with firefighters Bron and Donna here recruiting for the Fire Station in Tocumwal.
The duo has been out and about in our community, spreading the word on what they do and how those interested can be a part of it as a paid on-call firefighter.
On-call firefighters respond to local emergency incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week from their home or workplace.
They are notified by pager or mobile phone and can balance other work, study and family commitments while also protecting and supporting their local community.
While there is some commitment for your initial training, once complete the role is flexible and the amount of time you can commit to the brigade is up to you.
There will be an information session tonight at 5.30pm at the Tocumwal Fire Station on Deniliquin Rd.
Head along to enjoy a barbecue and ask any questions you may have about becoming part of the Tocumwal fire fighting team.

With works almost complete at Tocumwal Town Beach, the popular camping site will be ready for reopening soon.
With the installation of grey water happening the committee took the opportunity to do some other upgrades and maintenance to the area including some resurfacing to try and suppress some of the dust, as well as some freshwater system updates and tap replacements.
The Foreshore Committee and Berrigan Shire Council appreciate the cooperation during this time and hope to have the camping area open again on Monday, June 3.
