The award recognises that this person epitomises the future of our nation, and in 2024 that honour has been bestowed on Madeline Weir.
Madeline was one of two nominees for the award, with the other being Keneisha Doidge.
Only part way through her time at Deniliquin High School, Madeline’s nomination describes someone who is not only doing great things academically but who is evolving as a great role model.
“Madeline has been a role model student at Deniliquin High School since her enrolment in 2019,” the citation said.
“She has demonstrated concern for the wellbeing of staff and students at the school.
“Madeline is a student leader.”
At the time of submitting the nomination for the award, Madeline was merely a contender to be Deni High Captain in 2024.
She was eventually elected by her peers and her teachers to fill the top role.
“Madeline Weir is a well-known young person in the Deniliquin community,” the school said at the time.
“She is highly respected and regarded by her peers, teachers, and community members.
“Her behaviour as one of the school's captains and as a member of Deniliquin's youth has been exemplary.
“She has shown great leadership qualities, and her dedication to her community is admirable.
“Madeline is a shining example of what a young person can achieve with hard work, dedication, and a sense of purpose.”
