For Sadie Herrick, Friday, December 9 was the last day of an illustrious career as a preschool assistant in Jerilderie.

Families, staff and the preschool committee gave Sadie a wonderful send-off, with an array of food and gifts.
A large jar full of notes of thanks and love from past and present families and students will provide Sadie with lots of reading matter and emotional memories.
Sadie said that she has had 27 years of continual learning herself while involved in the care of the youngsters.
She has passed the baton to a new generation of teachers and carers. We wish her well.

Are we all delighted with the arrival of the annual pre-Christmas gift of what is politely called umbrella grass or hairy panic?
Recent high winds have brought the itchy stuff galloping across the plains like an invading army.
It has found its way into our gardens, businesses, and streets, where it seems to multiply in ever increasing numbers.
One would have thought that the floods would have eliminated a lot of the breeding grounds for the grass, but obviously it is tenacious.
It must be said that its arrival gives people a chance to let off steam, as they share their stories about how they are trying to win the battle to get rid of it.
By the way, pushing it over your neighbours’ fences is not an option. It will only come back to bite you.
