Berrigan Shire Council has joined the campaign, and Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean has expressed her strong support for the SSO.
She emphasised the critical role such positions play in the wellbeing of children, particularly in rural areas.

“These roles are essential, especially in regions where access to external support services is limited.
“I urge Minister Prue Car to reconsider the planned withdrawal of funding for SSOs in rural and regional communities.”
Parents of TPS students have echoed the mayor’s sentiments, highlighting the profound impact the SSO has had on their families.
“Our SSO has been a lifeline for many of us,” one said.
“She provides not just support, but hope and stability for our children during challenging times,” shared a parent representative.
“Her departure would leave a void that cannot be filled, and we are committed to doing everything we can to keep her in our school.”
The school community is actively seeking avenues for funding and support to ensure the SSO’s continued presence, recognising her invaluable contributions to the students and families she serves.
“We are united in our efforts to advocate for this essential role,” added another parent.
“We hope to work with local leaders and the government to find a solution that benefits our children and our community.”
