Nancy Marino, a trainer from Dementia Training Australia, visited the area for three days recently.
She conducted two days of training for staff of Finley Regional Care, and was a guest speaker at the Berrigan Shire Dementia Alliance presentation of ‘Unlocking Hope No.14’ at the Finley RS Club.
Members of the alliance also took part in the training and are hoping to have another visit from the training group in the future.
Nancy commented that the attendance by Finley Regional Care's staff was much larger than she was expecting, and she was delighted by their involvement and participation in the training.
Ruth Hayne RN, the compliance, quality, learning and development manager at Finley Regional Care said: “The staff who attended reported how much they have gained from the training and how to implement strategies learnt, into their care delivery for people living with dementia. It was great that we also had representation from the Dementia Alliance group.”
Those who attended the ‘Unlocking Hope’ event, from as far away as Urana, were delighted with the presentation.

Students of Finley High School who started in 1970 or joined that group in later years, have been invited to take part in a reunion to be held in Finley from Friday, November 14 until Sunday, November 16. This should be a great opportunity to get together for a laugh and to make up stories about the old times.
There will be plenty to keep everyone occupied. There will be a meet and greet with drinks at the Tuppal Hotel on Friday night, and Saturday at 12 noon will see a walk-through at the High School. Then there will be pre-dinner drinks at the Finley Golf Club at 5pm followed by dinner ($45/head) at 6pm.
Sunday morning at 10am there will be Barefoot Bowls and Brunch. It is thought that a nap might be needed in the afternoon before the dinner to be held at the Hong Loch Chinese Restaurant at 6pm.

Did you know World Parkinson’s Day was on April 11?
Parkinson’s is more common than many people realise, affecting more than 200,000 Australians. It’s often mistaken for just a tremor, when in reality, it’s a complex neurological condition that affects movement, mood, cognition and overall quality of life.

Parkinson’s Australia aims to promote the best possible quality of life for people with Parkinson’s. They do this via their online platform, newsletters, podcasts and social media platforms.
