The game secured Katamatite’s top placing on the Picola and District Football League ladder, while Blighty trails behind Rennie in last place.
Final score: Katamatite 27.18 (180) def Blighty 5.1 (31).
Blighty started out strong, kicking two goals right off the bat.
But the Tigers hit back even stronger, kicking seven before the sirens blew out at the end of the first stanza.
The second quarter saw Blighty kick another goal.
Katamatite ran over the defence with four of their own, with the Redeyes attempting to keep a cap on their success.
The third quarter saw Blighty legs tire out, with Katamatite taking advantage of their shallow bench to kick five massive goals.
The Tigers were ready for a victory lap in the fourth quarter, but the Redeyes put up a fight with two goals.
But the Tigers showed no sign of slowing down with nine of their own.
‘‘A hot start by the Tigers saw them jump to an early lead,’’ seniors coach Brad Haines said.
‘‘Our boys managed to control the footy for the next few quarters and kept the scoreboard ticking over.
‘‘Much to the disappointment of a big home crowd the visitors kicked away in the last.
Standouts for Blighty on Saturday were Kyel Bain who kicked his first two goals of the season, with core player Sam Singleton also middling one.
Young guns Jack Michael and Jack Sides showed some muscle for the Redeyes, with the former building on last round’s strong performance.
Jack Bunnett came out the ultimate star of the show.
‘‘Jack Bunnett was easily BOG (best on ground) playing on a quality opponent and giving plenty of rebound,’’ Haines said.
‘‘Bain did some good ground work and snagged a few goals, and Sam ran all day again.
‘‘Jack Michael is starting to become Mr Reliable down back and Sidesy is showing plenty of promise on the wing.
‘‘Congratulations to young Kobi (Baxter) on making his debut. He was very unlucky not to get a goal.’’
While the game resulted in a clear loss, Haines said there are aspects of the round which demonstrate improvement.
Next week, Blighty will take on Jerilderie on the Demons’ home turf.
