Riverina-based author Karen Turner lead National Simultaneous Storytime for the students at Finley Public School, St Joseph’s Finley, and the Goodstart Early Learning Centre Wednesday last week.
As part of the annual storytime activity, young people all over Australia gathered at 11am that day to read the same book — Give Me Some Space! by Philip Bunting.
Finley’s joint activity was hosted at Finley Library and the children could barely contain their excitement.
After the book was read, students were engaged in space-themed crafts and activities.
They made model spaceships with fantastic colours, and cellophane windows.
Mrs Turner said the beauty of National Simultaneous Storytime is that it generates an excitement in reading and writing within young people.
‘‘You see these books around us today? Everyone of those books is a different adventure,’’ she told the students.
‘‘You could pick up any one of those books, and go on an adventure. And the best bit is that if you read an adventure from a book, you’re home by teatime.’'
