The audience was amazed at the quality of the speeches presented by students from Tocumwal Public School and Sacred Heart School.
Each student presented a prepared speech, which they had already given at school.
Year 3/4 students prepared a three minute speech on the topic ‘Favourite Fairytale or Book Character - if you could talk to your favourite fairytale character or a character from your favourite book, who would it be, why are they your favourite and what would you ask them?’.
Chevelle Lancaster spoke about Pinocchio. Rose Blackbourn about Rikki Chadwick (H20: Just Add Water), Savannah Ross about Ella (Ella Diaries), and Whilloe Braybon’s favourite was Belle (Beauty & The Beast).
Year 5/6 prepared a four minute speech on the topic ‘Who is the most influential person in your life? Interview this person and then tell us about them - who are they, what do they do and how have they influenced you?’.
Eliza Wraight spoke about her teacher Mrs Denny, Lily Thorburn interviewed her mother Gretchen, Maya Daggett wrote her speech on her aunt Rhiannon and Rose Wiles about her godfather Rob.
Year 5/6 students also had 10 minutes to prepare a one minute speech answering: ‘If you were to visit any place in Australia, where would it be and why?’.
Places included Darwin, the Great Barrier Reef, Uluru, and the Gold Coast.
Judges Clare Hallett and Tony Scalzo selected winners - Chevelle Lancaster from TPS (Years 3/4) and Rose Whiles from Sacred Heart (Year 5/6).
Both will now go on to represent Tocumwal and their schools at the regional final in August.
