Its enthusiastic little bookworms will be descending on the town library until the end of the current school year.
On the upside, according to TPS principal Darren White, is the students will have plenty of choice as the town’s library has an impressively wide range of titles available.
“The school library has been undergoing renovations to repair damaged flooring in the historic 150-year-old building,” Mr White said.
“In addition, the staffroom and administration building will also be extended to accommodate the larger staffing numbers as the school continues to grow.
“As a result, the staffroom will be housed in the library throughout the remainder of the term, meaning it will not be accessible to the students.”
The Tocumwal branch of the Berrigan Shire Library has welcomed the challenge of dealing with the school’s students with open arms.
Library manager Janice Noble says they are is excited to see so many new borrowers headed for the library.
“Once the school library is reopened at the start of 2024, I hope the experience of visiting the town library has opened the eyes of its students to just how much is available at the library, and they continue to visit us outside of school hours to keep expanding their reading,” she said.
Mr White said the school is “extremely grateful” to the Berrigan Shire Library for opening its doors to the school students.
“We thank Mrs Noble and the Tocumwal library staff for their patience and valuable time in organising the new memberships for our students, as well as taking time to show what is available to borrow – from books to STEM kits,” he added.
“Each week, Mrs Noble reads to all the classes, runs activities and in doing this creates a valuable excitement with the children about the wonders of books.”
