And with visitor numbers still strong as the summer continues, the hive of activity is expected to stimulate the local economy and boost visitor interaction.
Clare Hallett from the Berrigan Shire run Tocumwal Visitor Information Centre estimates visitation in Tocumal to be about 2000 over the festive season, but said it could also be a lot more.
At least 300 of those ventured into the visitor centre to learn more about the region’s attractions.
Several attractions around the region, paired with the region’s natural beauty, have brought in the many interested visitors.
“It (Tocumwal) is very popular,” she said.
“We had two markets, one on Saturday, December 28 and also the Saturday just gone (January 4), both a week apart, and they were just amazing.
“We also had Bullaginya Dreaming again last weekend, which pulls in quite a few visitors.
“It’s not necessarily anything different (to previous years) because a lot of people return here each year.
“However, there have been quite a few overseas people who have come by and visited, which for a relatively tiny place like here is great.
“Also, the difference this year has been that people are stopping by in town and staying a little while, rather than in the past where they would just be passing through.”
Mrs Hallett said towns across the entire Southern Riverina could feel the positive financial impact of the visitor spend.
“It’s a great economic impact, and it’s not just Tocumwal but also, especially Finley, Berrigan and Barooga - all parts of Berrigan Shire.”
While the holidays have finished for most people, Mrs Hallett said there are still some tourists visiting the area due to the school holiday period.
“Around January 4 we had a bit of an exodus; however, many are still here, still filtering through and milling around, which is great.”
Visitor numbers are also expected to boom again for Australia Day.
