Eddie Synot, Kim Rubenstein and James Blackwell will answer questions and provide information about the upcoming referendum at the Deniliquin Town Hall in a free public meeting.
Local woman Edwina Circuitt said the organising committee “want to encourage respectful conversation and questions so our community can go to the referendum well informed.”
Mr Synot is a Wamba Wamba First Nations public lawyer and researcher with connections to Deniliquin.
He lectures at the Griffith Law School and is a research fellow at the ILC UNSW and has worked with the Uluru Dialogue since 2018.
Professor Rubenstein is a constitutional law and civics expert from the University of Canberra.
A graduate of Melbourne University and Harvard Law School, she is Australia’s leading expert on citizenship and has been a public policy contributor through running cases in the High Court of Australia, advising on legislation, a member of the Independent Committee that reviewed the Australian Citizenship Test, and through writing books and articles about citizenship law and policy.
Mr Blackwell, a Wiradyuri man, is a research fellow in Indigenous diplomacy at the Australian National University, Canberra.
He is also a member of the Uluru Dialogue, based at the University of NSW, working to support the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
The trio of academics have been presenting Q&A type forums across the country and are heading to Deniliquin after recent speaking events in Bright, Benalla, Euroa, Narrandera and Wagga Wagga.
Mr Synot said all three are looking forward to visiting Deniliquin to discuss the Voice to Parliament and will provide in-depth information to help voters make an informed decision about the 2023 referendum.
This free event is open to all the community.
People wishing to attend the Deniliquin session are asked to arrive early for seating, ahead of a 6.30pm start.
