In My Closet, Shepparton’s used clothing market, is fast becoming a much-anticipated event among Goulburn Valley fashion lovers each season.
Organisers Hilary Grigg and Aline Davies are gearing up to host their fourth market — following successful spring, summer and autumn events — at The McIntosh Centre next month.
“We are so grateful for the community support so far, and really hope that more people come along to discover the joy of second-hand shopping,” Ms Grigg said.
With spring just around the corner, the fashion-forward pair is urging sellers to clean out their wardrobes and part with those items that haven’t seen the light of day this year.
Recycling fashion items combats the waste and emissions created by modern-day fast fashion.
In addition to helping the planet, buying second-hand eases the financial burden that buying quality goods often brings.
“We both care a lot about the impact of fast fashion on the environment, and second-hand clothing markets are a great way to keep good-quality clothing out of landfill,” Ms Grigg said.
The autumn market’s gold-coin entry fee raised $409.25, which was donated to the Greater Shepparton Foundation for the Bella Ainsworth Perpetual Lift-Off Scholarship.
The forthcoming market’s gold coin entry fee will be donated to Motherland Australia, a grassroots organisation helping rural mums feel less isolated and alone.
At the winter instalment, 50 undercover stalls will offer a variety of treasures for all bodies, including babies and children, as well as shoes, accessories and jewellery.
It is a cash-only event, except for the accompanying food trucks, which will have Eftpos available, so shoppers are encouraged to bring cash and their own bags or baskets.
The winter In My Closet market will be held from 9am to 2pm on Sunday, August 11 at The McIntosh Centre, Shepparton Showgrounds.
