When the Riverbend Gallery opened in August 2023, it was a win for the Edward River Art Society, the local community and Deniliquin’s visitors.

It was the culmination of a long held dream for ERAS to have their own gallery space.
It’s a goal members had been working on for several years, with several different locations considered.
The members are now reaping the benefits of having the Hardinge St gallery space in more ways than one.
A source of pride for those who have worked so hard for so long, the exposure it provides has now been followed by acknowledgement at the highest local level.
ERAS was thrilled to accept the Edward River Council 2024 Art and Culture Award at last Friday’s awards ceremony.
The idea of the gallery was to create opportunities for local artists to meet, learn, and work together.
It’s also a space where local artists can exhibit and sell their work.
“Members of this group have been long-standing advocates for a space for artists to be able to exhibit works, but also for a space that can enhance the cultural life of Deniliquin, as well as enhance tourism and attract visitors to Deniliquin,” the group’s citation read.
“This dream finally came true this year through the sheer persistence of the artists who are all volunteers in their group.”
ERAS was also recognised for the work it does overall to support cultural activities in the council area.
“The society played a crucial role in establishing the Edward River Council Arts Committee, which provides industry advice to the council on arts and culture policy and priorities,” its citation read.
While not specifically in the Australia Day award citation, ERAS is also well known for its involvement in creating cultural and tourism opportunities in Deniliquin at Easter.
In partnership with the Rotary Club of Deniliquin it presents the Deniliquin Easter Art Show.
The 30th anniversary event was held in 2023.
The other nominee for the Art and Culture Award was Nicole Jenkins.
