Unfortunately, this year, it wasn’t to be for Tocumwal’s thirds footballers.
Despite all the preparation, hard work, and dedication shown throughout the season, the final hurdle proved too much, and the Dees fell short of the ultimate prize.
“Grand finals demand that 90 per cent of things go your way, and today, we were lucky if we had 15 percent in our favour,” coach Drew Haebich said.
“Whether it was a crucial free kick or the bounce of the ball, it just never seemed to fall our way.
“It’s a tough pill to swallow, especially after such a remarkable season, but football can be a cruel game, and sometimes, no matter how much heart and effort you put in, the result doesn’t reflect that.”
Haebich expressed his heartfelt pride in the young men, emphasizing their effort and commitment throughout the season.
“I am honestly gutted, yet truly thankful and proud of these young men.
“I love each and every one of them as if they were my own.”
His words resonate deeply, highlighting the bond formed over the season, and the respect and admiration he holds for every player who wore our colours with pride.
The thirds may not have secured the win, but they earned the respect and admiration of their teammates, coach, and the community.
You gave your all, and for that, we are incredibly proud.
To the supporters, families, and everyone involved in this journey, thank you for your unwavering support.
It’s been a season full of highs, and even in this low moment, we stand united, knowing that the bonds formed and the lessons learned this year will only make us stronger in the future.
We will rise again, learn from this experience, and come back even more determined next season. For now, hold your heads high, knowing you gave everything you had.
