TPS students from Years 3 - 6 are currently undertaking the bowling lessons as part of their physical education program, learning the skills from experienced Bowling Club volunteers.
Organised by the TPS sports co-ordinator Beth Hatty, principal Darren White said the arrangement was a “win-win” for both the students and club members.
“The TGBC recently purchased a number of junior bowling kits for the purpose of having the equipment and program available to teach the children of Tocumwal how to play the game of lawn bowls,” White said.
“Rookie Rollers is an exciting participation product developed by Bowls Australia, which aims to bring the sport of bowls to kids around the country.
“Bowls is an emerging sport in schools, and Rookie Rollers is designed to enable kids to participate in an engaging format, which is both fun and inclusive.
“The volunteers from the TGBC have been amazing mentors with their enthusiasm and genuine delight in the tremendous progress of the students.
“Our students have really enjoyed the sessions and there are some very exciting junior prospects in the ranks.
“We are very grateful for the time that the club volunteers have put in to assist us.”
