From Sunday to Tuesday, four representative under-16s teams faced off in a display of junior limited overs cricket.
Cricket Albury Wodonga (CAW) had three wins to win the shield, with Northern Riverina claiming two wins, Southern Riverina one and Murrumbidgee winless.
Southern Riverina, which covers the Deni area, was competitive throughout the carnival winning the first game against Murrumbidgee by nine wickets before losing to CAW by four wickets, and then Northern Riverina by 39 runs.
One exceptional performance across the three days was that of Max Thompson, from Nyah, representing Southern Riverina.
He took 6-16 off nine overs, including a hat trick, scored 53 not out in the Murrumbidgee game, and hit a superb 136 off 122 balls in the final game against Northern Riverina.
The carnival received lots of compliments and congratulations from the many visitors from all over the Riverina, as did the Rhinos facilities and the wickets prepared by Rhinos Anthony Bradley and Tim Hillier.
It was the biggest tournament held in the Riverina this season so far, with 80 players and coaches and more than 150 parents and family members.
This provided a handy economic benefit for accommodation providers, service stations, supermarkets, clubs and pubs.
A Riverina team selected from the Deniliquin carnival will be announced early next week.
This team will play in the Southern NSW Bradman Cup carnival, comprising six teams, in Albury in early January 2025.
A similar carnival will be held on the North Coast, and winners of each will pay off for the Bradman Cup title in early February at the SCG.
