Division 2 made it four wins on the trot with a hard fought win on the road over a determined Numurkah outfit 68-42 (14-2).
Rick Bradbury won 30-11, Paul Glanvill won 22-20 while Garry Seamer's rink did a mighty job, dragging back six shots in the last two ends to go down 16.21.
The win keeps the Curlews on top of the ladder, however they are on the road again this week against third-placed Finley.
Despite missing two of their regular skips and some other key players, Division 3 sneaked home by the narrowest of margins at home against Numurkah 62-61 (12-4).
Alex Dalgliesh was a steadying influence, winning 24-16 while fill-in skips Mary Curtin and Val Chisholm performed very well despite losing 21-23 and 17-22 respectively.
Division 3 remain in sixth place on the ladder but are only seven points away from the top four.
They have a chance to break into the top four next week if they defeat fifth-placed Nathalia at home.
Division 5 continues to go from strength-to-strength with another win, this time at home against Jerilderie 39-32 (12-2).
Steve Gann won 22-17 and Rob Beard won 17-15.
The win takes the Curlews to the top of the ladder.
Division 5 are on the road next week to take on second-placed Tocumwal.
The midweek Curlews had the bye last week.
They are sitting second on the ladder, but have a chance to improve their position on the road against Cobram this week.
Roger Reynoldson will take on Paul Glanvill in the Mick Bush Open 100-up final this week.
Both semi-finals were nail-biting affairs going down to the last bowl.
Reynoldson (14) defeated Graeme Parr (11), 100-98, in a match that could have gone either way.
In the other semi-final surprise package, Hardy Rennick (7) took it right up to Glanvill all match.
Coming off his quarter-final win over Matt Hansen, Rennick went end-for-end with Glanvill with the match ending in a shootout.
Glanvill showed his composure to win 100-99.
The barefoot bowls season is starting to heat up, and the Eagles look like the team to beat.
They remain undefeated on top of the ladder after a win against the Pirates 3-3, 7-1.
In other results, Savernake defeated Beers 1-5-, 3-2, 1-0; Red Dog won their first game for the season in a 1-4, 5-1, 1-0 victory over Potato Cakes; Dunnos defeated Tomahawks 4-2, 7-3; Dim Sims made it two wins in a row defeating 29 Toes 2-5, 4-1, 1-0; and CSI defeated the debutants True Blues 9-1, 11-0.
The ladder is now Eagles on 15 points, FIK on 11.5, CSI on 11 points and all equal on eight points are Beers, Dim Sims, 29 Toes and Dunnos.
On 7.5 points are Savernake and Pirates, followed by Red Dog on 5.5 points and Potato Cakes on four points. Tomahawks and True Blues are yet to get on the board.
Paul Glanvill represented Murray Bowls on Sunday in the annual Rowland-Sutcliffe challenge against Goulburn Valley.
Unfortunately, Goulburn Valley was too strong on the day.
Jerilderie
After the week off for pennant due to a general bye for both divisions, the third and fifth teams travelled away for Saturday’s matches to very fast greens at Katandra West and Berrigan.
Gaining maximum points for Division 3 has kept Jerilderie in second position on the ladder.
Mark Baldwin won by 15, Terry Chaplains by eight and John Bryce by three for a total of 16 points, which was a strong performance and really good win away from home.
Division 5 were extremely competitive but unlucky to go down by seven, with both Lucy Gurciullo and Greg Rendle skipping the newly formed teams.
Special thanks to the Coly subs for their help filling our sides.
This week sees a home match for both divisions, playing Tocumwal and Cobram.
The weather forecast is for a very hot day, and hopefully the games will start early to beat the heat.
Last to arrive was the random card drawn for winning barefoot bowls, with the winning couple being Mary and Aaron.
We welcome everyone to join us for barefoot bowls, with new bowls supplied to help if needed.
