The bout will be hosted at the Melbourne Pavilion.
Yates received the invite after a so far undefeated boxing career.
“We got offered the fight two weeks after my last one,” he said.
“I had a week off from training and then was straight back into camp.”
Yates said opportunities like this one are not common, so he had no hesitation accepting the offer.
“These sort of opportunities don't come around too much, especially for me, being 33 and starting late with the boxing.”
“It is a great achievement; a massive feather in my cap.
“Because of my age and not being able to box forever, to win something like this would be awesome.”
Yates’ training has included rounds of sparring in with plenty of partners, giving him different points of view and styles.
He travels to Shepparton, Albury and Melbourne to get as much training in with his coach as he can.
“Getting as many rounds in as possible before September 1 is the key,” Yates said.
