Junior Golf
On Sunday, the first of the 2024 open tournaments for junior golfers in the Western Riverina District of the Golf NSW Murray Region commenced at Finley.

Junior golfers from Rich River, Howlong, Berrigan, Tocumwal, Yarrawonga, Kyabram, Narrandera, Wagga, The Rock, Deniliquin, Leeton and Thurgoona joined Finley juniors for the tournament.
They played a short course version for a Jack Newton Golf, Juniors on the Move tournament.
At end of the day, it was Archer Golding from Rich River with a scratch score of 78 who came out as the open champion.
Lachlan Whelan from Berrigan on 90 gross was runner-up.
In the net division, it was Lachlan Martin from Howlong who was the winner with 65 net and Harry Daniel from Finley was runner-up with 74 net.
In the novelty events, Miller Sanderson from Yarrawonga was NTP on the 18th
In the Jack Newton, Juniors on the Move, Laura Horneman from Rich River had 27 net to be the girls winner, with Rivah Taylor from Deniliquin on 35 net as runner-up.
The boys’ winner, with 21 net, was Conner Tyrell from Narrandera. Patrick Umback from The Rock was one shot back on 22 net to be runner-up.
In the novelty events, the girls’ long drive was Laura Horneman.
Boys’ long drive was Sonny Jess from Narrandera and Boys NTP was Patrick Umback.
The next round of the series is at Murray Downs on Sunday, September 29.
Finley
Price Concrete provided the trophies when the women played stroke on Wednesday.
Heather Daniel, on 70 net, came in as the day’s winner.
With 28 putts Joanne Dean was winner of the putting competition.
Ball competition winners were Anne Harding 72, Beth White 72 and Joanne Dean who carded 71 net.
Andrew Tregeagle with 38 points came in the winner when the men played stableford on Wednesday.
NTP on the 18th was Norm Pyle.
Ball competition winners were Trevor McCaw 37, with John Taylor and Rob Daniel each with 36 stableford points.
With 21 points, John Taylor claimed the day when stableford was played at the Winter 9 Hole Competition on Thursday.
Colin McNamara, on 20, and Grant Shaw with 18 points were winners in the ball competition.
On Saturday it was the Pyke Irrigation Stroke Day, which included the September Monthly Medal for men and Brooch for women.
Men’s Division One winner, with 71 net, was Paul Pinnuck.
Billy Smith had 74 net to win Division Two.
Mary Polkinghorne, with 72 net, was the winner of the Women’s Division, and also took out the women’s putting competition with 29 putts.
The Men’s Scratch Monthly Medal went to Ian Armer on 74 gross, and the Net Medal went to Paul Pinnuck on 71 net.
Mary Polkinghorne, with 72 net, took out the Ladies’ September Brooch.
NTP on the 18th was Ian Armer.
Ball competition winners were Leo McNamara 72, Ian Armer 73, Sel Corcoran 73, Grant Shaw 74, Andrew Harding 75, with Beth White and Julie O’Brien who finished on 76 net.
There was a smaller turnout on Sunday when stableford was played for trophies from the Club Tocumwal Golf Pro Shop.
Helen McRae had 35 points to win the women’s trophy, while Rodger Sutton claimed the trophy for the men, also on 35.
NTP on the 18th was Tony Smith.
Winners in the ball competition were Rob Singleton 34, Matt Daniel 34, Tony Smith 33, Colin McNamara 33, and Helen Wastle who finished with 32 stableford points.
Jerilderie
Last Wednesday was ladies Monthly Medal (putts) and medley stroke (putts).

This Wednesday will be medley stableford and Sunday will be medley three sticks.
Our club has several upcoming tournaments which are of interest to our golfers, including the Outback Golf Challenge October 5-7 (2 Person Ambrose, Men’s, Ladies and Mixed Divisions) and President’s Cup October 20 (2 Person Ambrose).

The ladies played stableford last Tuesday, September 10 for the Grandmother’s Trophy.

Berrigan
Friday’s golf winner was Gail Browne (42-7.5-34.5), and runner-up was Dave Midson (53-17-36).
Putting was won by Sandy Moar 13, and ball winners were Sandy Moar (55-18-37), Brad Vale (50-13-37) and Steve Senini (48-10-38).
Saturday’s winner was Alan Arnold (43-9-34), who also won the putting with 12.
Runner-up was Doug Cameron (41-6-35), and ball winner Lachlan Whelan (40-4-36).
Sunday’s winner was Alan Arnold (87-19-69), and runner-up was Gail Browne (85-15-70).
Putting was won by Alan Arnold 29, and ball winners Jeff Stein (93-20-73) and Steve Senini (94-20-74).
Next Sunday will be stableford with tee off at 12.30pm.
