On his Tocumwal A-grade captaincy debut, Pete Harrison won the toss and elected to bat.
Harrison and Tom White got Tocumwal off to a good start.
The Tocumwal team then had a quick collapse leaving them 4-44.
Cooper Harris and Liam Sutton put on a good partnership before Sutton was out caught.
This brought in the club legend Rod Meloury, who turned the clock back with the bat.
He top scored with 29 before being bowled by a good ball.
Christina Roberts batted well, at the end being not out and getting the team to a total of 115.
Tocumwal A-grade then took to the field with Sutton and Andrew Arthur opening with the new ball.
Nathalia got off to a flyer with their big-hitting opener (Brenton Campbell).
It took a good catch in slips by Hayden White to dismiss him.
Tocumwal changed the bowling around a little, and bowled and fielded well.
Dennis Sutton was electric in the field, taking two good catches.
Nathalia were too good, passing the Tocumwal score in the 23rd over. Scott Morris batted well with 60.
C-grade
Tocumwal’s C-grade side headed back up the road to Deni and lost the toss, and were sent into the field.
Lachie McDonald and Declan Cameron opened the bowling, with McDonald winding back the clock with a few missed chances.
Cameron found some good areas and got Tocumwal the breakthrough with a great ball, bowling the Rhinos batsman.
Cooper Mangion came on and bowled some really good areas.
He was unlucky not to pick up a wicket.
Aaron Shepherd took an over to warm up, and was on the money in his second over to remove the other opener.
Daniel Bennett was thrown the ball and delivered in his first over, after McDonald wound the clock back again, taking what can only be described as a catch that left everyone in attendance stunned.
This had Deni 3-53 in the 13th over, and once again Tocumwal unfortunately let some batsmen put them to the sword.
It was a partnership of 79 that only ended with their batsmen retiring.
Their next batsman was trapped LBW by Lachie McDonald, and Brandon Meloury managed to snag one as well.
Deni posted an impressive total of 5-181 off 35 overs.
Tocumwal knew it was a big total to chase but thought ‘if they can do it why can’t we?’.
Unfortunately, the Tocumwal batting innings saw the team finish their 35 overs 8-68.
While Deni did bowl well, Tocumwal couldn’t punish the bad balls and got bogged down only to throw their wickets away.
The C-grade team’s first game back after the Christmas break is January 18.
