Winning the toss, the Cats chose to bat.
Cougar McGrath (35) and Harry Wilkinson (27) kicked things off with a 60 run opening partnership.
After that it was all downhill for the Cats, losing 10 wickets for 55 runs with Harrison King (19) being the only other score to note.
The end of the innings saw the Cats’ final score reach 10-115.
The Cats went in to bowl and got an early wicket with Archie Mason (1-31) taking a wicket with his first ball.
After that wickets were hard to come by, but some excellent bowling by Harrison King (2-30) saw the stumps come out of the ground on one occasion and skittled on another.
Unfortunately for the Cats, Barooga chased the runs down only losing three wickets to finish 3-117 off 22 overs and winning by seven wickets.
The Cats play away to ladder-leaders Cobram this Saturday.
B-grade:
Finley B-grade travelled down to Katunga on Saturday looking for their first win of the season.
After getting sent into bat first, Finley got off to a good start with an opening stand of 34 between Cameron Isedale (10) and Lenny Dattoli (21).
Three quick wickets saw Finley stumble to 3-34 before an excellent 114-run partnership between Ryan Donkin (69) and Matt Clarke (43) put Finley in a stronger position.
A flurry of late wickets had Finley all out for 156.
Finley took the field and didn’t have the greatest of starts with the ball, with Katunga cruising to 92 without the loss of a wicket.
It took some tight bowling from Cameron Arnold (0-22 off 8 overs) and Dattoli (1-24 off 8 overs) to slow them down.
Dattoli picked up the first wicket to put some life back into the Cats, and it was then Clarke (2-19 off 7 overs) who picked up the next two wickets putting the pressure back on the opposition.
Young gun Ryan Bauer then ripped apart the Katunga batting line up, taking 6-20 off 5.1 overs in a magnificent display of bowling.
The game came down to the last over with Katunga requiring eight to win, but a direct hit runout from Dan Eldridge sealed a hard fought seven run win for the Cats.
Finley now take on Cobram this weekend at Finley.
Under-15s:
The under-15s had their first home game of the season against Tocumwal on Saturday.
Toc won the toss and elected to bat.
Finley’s bowling started well with Ryan Bauer (0-4 off four overs) and Evan Lawton (1-19 off six overs) bowling tight lines.
Toc were cruising at 3-131 until Sophie Urquhart came into the attack.
Sophie ripped through the Bloods’ middle order, taking five wickets.
Attacking the stumps every ball, she finished with figures of 5-14 off three overs. Well done Sophie.
Toc’s final score was 160 after 37 overs.
Finley will have their batting innings this weekend.
Under-13s:
It was an absolute nail baiter for the under-13s last week, away from home.
It all came down to the last ball of the innings, where Katamatite needed two runs to take victory.
Some quick thinking in the field by Rori Dean caused a run out, securing Finley’s maiden victory by one run.
The Price family award went to Jackson Pyle for his bowling efforts (1-2 off two overs) and the Pyle family award went to Archie Brindley for his batting (13 not out).
