Minimal error from either side saw action aplenty, goal for goal centre transitions, and a high-pressure game.
In the first term, Berrigan weren’t able to capitalise on a couple of turnovers which saw them down by three goals difference at the first break.
In the second term Berrigan defenders Gracie Rice, Erica Hammond and Lucy Pyle kept Tungamah to six goals for the quarter, and this enabled Berrigan shooters Layla Towler and Charlie Magill to close the gap, levelling the scores 18 all at the main break.
The premiership quarter saw a determined Tungamah up the ante and roles were reversed, Tungamah’s pressure keeping Berrigan’s attack to six goals, not without a huge effort from the Saints midcourters in Miley Driscoll in the centre supported well by Mia Cameron in WA.
Unfortunately wild weather made the conversion difficult in goals, allowing Tungamah to take advantage of a comfortable nine goal lead into the last break.
With it all on the line, Berrigan made a big change moving Charlie Magill into GD and Erica Hammond into GA.
The switch up gave Saints renewed drive and motivation, and they outscored the Bears in the final term 13 goals to 11, but unfortunately for the Saints it was just not quite enough to get them over the line.
It was a forceful, consistent game of netball. Annabell Brooks had a solid first quarter and was crucial on the sideline for the encouragement for the Saints as well as Maddie Rice who cheered and supported the team all day.
The club thanks all the fabulous supporters who took time from their Father’s Day and Sunday activities to support the young Saints.
It is only the beginning for this superstar group of girls who will be major players for the Saints in the years to come.
